Disability Driving Instructors

I have 20 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, specialising in children and young adults with physical and learning disabilities. I used this experience to help me develop my skills as a specialist driving instructor, where I have become experienced in coaching people with physical and learning difficulties. I am also a BSL signing Deaf Aware Instructor (Signature/CACDP Level 1) with experience in teaching deaf people how to drive. I teach in an Automatic Toyota Corolla which is fitted with the following driving adaptations: Push/pull hand controls with an integral indicator pin switch. Twin flip left foot accelerator. Steering ball for left or right hand use. SmartSteer secondary control unit incorporated into a steering spinner. With these adaptations I can teach people with no function in their lower limbs and those with a weakness to one side or the other affecting both the arm and leg.
