Deaf Awareness
Teaching Deaf people to Drive, A Handbook for Driving Instructors and the DVSA Deaf Customer Support Pack
DDI Teaching Deaf People to Drive
This handbook, produced by Disability Driving Instructors, gives guidance to ADIs who wish to instruct deaf people to drive. Suggested hand gestures for directing pupils during tuition and when they are on test are included.
DVSA Deaf Customer Support Pack
This pack, produced by DVSA, was introduced to help examiners when conducting practical driving tests for deaf candidates. ADIs are being advised to read the pack to understand what their deaf pupils may experience when taking their test. They are also being encouraged to use the pack for training purposes and when undertaking mock tests, this will hopefully familiarise their pupils with the use of the pack and help with the aim of creating a more seamless transition from training to testing.
